Owner-operator New Castle Hotels and Resorts, Shelton, Connecticut, announced on April 1, 2012 a joint venture purchase of the Algonquin Resort with Halifax-based real estate developer Southwest Properties. The resort was purchased from the provincial government of New Brunswick, which has owned the landmark hotel since 1971. The resort closed in September 2012 for renovations, reopened as the Algonquin Resort under Marriott’s Autograph Collection in March 2014.
