  • Founded as a large, timber boarding house in 1816. Owner (Thomas H. Hughes) named it Congress Hall in 1828 after he was elected to the U.S. House of Representatives. Destroyed by fire in 1878 the Hall was rebuilt in brick and re-opened in 1879. From 1995 to 2002 a major renovation restored Congress Hall to its current "modern" state. (Wikipedia)
