  • There had been a bar in this space since 1863. When purchased by Willie Morrissey in 1936 the building was known as The Davenport Hotel (Carling Brewery).
  • Owner Willie Morrissey was also a racehorse owner; his horse Bunty Lawless won the King's Plate in 1938, and in 1951 was voted Canada's "Horse of the Half-Century".
