- Construction was started on the castle in 1969 by Lexington contractor Rex Martin Sr ("Martin Castle"). Construction stopped in 1975 and the castle sat unfinished and empty for more than 30 years. In August 2003 Martin died and 3 months later it was bought for $1.8 million by University of Kentucky graduate Thomas Post. While it was being restored, a fire in May 2004 further delayed the renovation project.
